Ajax are hosting the 2006 Leinster Orienteering Championships on Bull Island South, Clontarf, Dublin City, on Sunday April 23rd, 2006 (location map & satellite view).

The competition area is an intricate sand dune system surveyed and mapped by Aonghus O'Cleirigh in 2005/2006. Aonghus is also planning the courses. This event promises to be exciting, fast, complex and spectator friendly - don't miss it. The map scale will be 1:5,000 with a 2.5m contour interval for all competitors. Longer courses will have a map exchange. SportIdent timing will be used.

Planner: Aonghus O'Cleirigh (Ajax)
Controller: Brendan O'Brien (Ajax)
Organiser: Marcus Geoghegan (Ajax)

The closing date has passed and the online online entry system is now closed. There is a slim possibility that we can accept your entry by email to loc2006 at orienteering.ie, but we will only accept your entry if we have enough pre-marked maps available. Remember to include your name, class, club & SportIdent number (if you have one).

Entry fees: Adults €16.00, families €40, juniors (18-) and unwaged €9.00.

The closing date for entries was March 31st, 2006. Anyone who had entered by Saint Patrick’s Day (March 17th) was placed in a free draw for an Electronic Map Measurer. The result will be announced at the event.

Event information, course details, start lists and results will be published via the Irish and Northern Irish Orienteering YahooGroups, ajax.orienteering.ie and email. No information will be sent by post.

There is ample parking for cars on the beach. A special condition of our permission to use Bull Island is that all cars must park on the beach and not on the access road. Please respect this and do not put our chances of using Bull Island again in jeopardy.  Anyone bringing a bus should contact loc2006 at orienteering.ie to make special arrangements. The car parking, assembly, start and finish are all adjacent to each other. Entry to the event is from the coast road (Clontarf road) via the wooden bridge at the south end of the island opposite Seafield Road East, and not from Causeway road. High tide on April 23rd is at 08:30.

Special permission has been granted by Dublin City Council's Parks Department for Orienteers to use Bull Island and they will be monitoring the event. Please do your best to showcase Orienteering as an environment and family friendly sport.

Orienteering is an adventure sport. Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

O-suit Update

AjaxOSuitDesign2.jpgEd. Niland has taken over sorting out the Club's new O-suits. He needs to know what people want to order as soon as possible as it will take about eight weeks from ordering, to get them. The image at the left shows the proposed design for the extreme O-suit (click on it for a larger version) while the previous design will be used for the ordinary suits. You can contact Ed. via the club's Yahoo Forum.
